Literacy Leaders

FBEC have been promoting a love of reading by recruiting student mentors. The mentors actively engage younger students in reading for pleasure and enjoyment. They encourage a love of reading whilst building and encouraging fluency and accuracy.

FBEC’s Literacy Leaders are currently working with Year 7 students during dedicated DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) time. The Literacy Leaders are passionate about reading; enjoy reading for pleasure and are keen to share their love of reading with younger students. This

is a focused support that allows younger students to gain confidence and improve the reading fluency.

It is early days! So far, it has been a great success and the initiative will be developed across year 7 form classes in order to build reading confidence. It will then progress to incorporate key literacy strategies that will be delivered by the Literacy Leaders.
