Brilliant Club Scholars Program

We are delighted to be offering the brilliant club scholars programme to a group of 12 year 9 students in the spring and summer term. This will be our third cohort of students following the programme, however this coming year we have been lucky enough to secure an extra experience for the students taking part. This year the course will end with a graduation trip, our pupils will also experience a residual experience at a college at Oxford university. Whilst here they will learn about student life, take part in tours of the university and the city. They will also be involved in social activities ran by the student ambassadors and stay over night in one of the prestigious colleges at the university.

As in previous years the students will follow a tutorial programme delivered in school by a PHD tutor, where the students will experience university style learning and produce an assignment at the end up to 1500 words in length.

Previous cohorts - 2019

Our students took part in two visits to Newcastle and Durham universities and they worked in school with a PHD tutor on a project looking at antibiotic resistant bacteria.

2021

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the students were unable to visit the universities in person but took in virtual experiences instead. A PHD tutor came into school and worked with the students on a project looking at air pollution and the effects on health.
