Girls Cricket @ Chester Le Street
On the 17th May, 8 girls from year 7 and 8 took part in the Girls Chance to Compete cricket tournament at Chester-le-Street cricket club. Due to a few last minute drop outs, the only two other teams taking part were St. Leonards and Framwellgate School so this meant the tournament ran with each school playing each other twice. For our first game we were up against Framwellgate school and with some fantastic batting and fielding we claimed the win with 50 runs to 34. Next we faced St. Leonards, and continuing our win streak we improved on our previous run total and claimed the victory with 72 runs to 36. Into round 2 of the tournament we were back playing Framwellgate and with a unsteady start we pulled it together just in time and scraped a 62 to 61 runs win. For our final game of the tournament we were back playing St. Leonards and with some fantastic 6’s achieved by Neve and Romilly and some amazing diving catches from Neve, we scored the most runs out of all the games we played, winning 88-28. Overall, we won 4 out 4 of games resulting in us winning the whole tournament, accumulating a massive 272 runs in total. We will now progress to the regional event where we hope to have just as much success. A huge congratulations and well done to the girls involved, you all played with a fantastic team spirit and displayed a high level of excellence throughout the day.
