Summer School 2021

FBEC took part in the Department for Education funded scheme during the summer of 2021 to provide a transition summer school for students who would be joining us in Year 7 in September. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to meet new friends, consolidate learning gaps and also to have new, exciting experiences, all of which would help to ease the transition into secondary school life. All students who applied to FBEC were invited to a one-week summer school in August 2021, of which 126 students responded and attended.

Students experienced a wide range of activities and external visits including:

• York Walk - History

• Centre for Life - STEM

• ICT project development

• Personal Development – resilience

• Dragon’s Den - business

• Bowling

• Beamish visit

• Languages

• Drama workshop

• Literacy

• Sports and Glow in the Dark Disco

• Visit to London

Parental feedback was extremely positive:

“I just want to feedback to the FBEC team that my child thoroughly enjoyed her trip to London. It's the first time she's done anything like that away from family and it's been a great experience for her.”

“It's done wonders for her confidence as she was quite nervous and not knowing many people. She now speaks of new friends and showed no nervousness.”

“Thank you very much for the time and effort you all put in to preparing and attending the trip.”

“As a family we are so grateful for our child to have had such an experience, she absolutely loved the sights, the activities & has never stopped talking about them & will have these memories forever.”

“She has never had the experience of a school trip due to Covid but she felt at ease with the school staff and made new friends quickly.”

“This has massively eased the transition process and now looking forward to starting a new school.”

“Thank you so much for this amazing positive experience.”
