Show Racism The Red Card

On Thursday October 20th, students from Ferryhill School took part in “Show Racism the Red Card” day.

This annual event was established by former Newcastle United player Shaka Hislop after he was targeted by a group of young people whilst filling his car at a garage in the city. They shouted racist abuse at him, until, realising who it was, they then asked for his autograph. This spurred him to set up the charity and encourage us all to stamp out racism by wearing red clothes to show it is not tolerated at our school.

Student Leaders also collected donations for Ferryhill Food Bank.

UPDATE - A total of £60 was donated by Ferryhill School, which will be used to buy supplies for local families in the run up to Christmas. Thanks to all who took part by wearing red on the day, and our Student Leaders for collecting the donations.
