Christmas at Beamish

KS3 students stepped back in time and visited Beamish to enjoy the wonder of Christmas from across a range of time periods.

Students started in the 1820s at Pockerley, where Christmas was by candlelight before heading into the 1900s, where they visited the town, pit village and colliery. Here they looked at how homes were decorated with paper chains and meals were cooked on the fire.

They then headed into the 1950s town and farm, looking at traditional decorations, tasting Yuletide treats, listing to how festive music has changed over time and discovering how Christmas celebrations were different in rural and urban settings at the time.
