Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance

Intent

At Ferryhill School, our careers programme is designed to ensure that every student is prepared to make ambitious, informed and realistic decisions about their future.

We want all students, regardless of their starting point, background or additional needs, to understand the opportunities available to them and to leave school with the knowledge, skills, confidence and experiences needed to progress successfully into further education, training, apprenticeships or employment.

Careers education is embedded within our wider Personal Development provision and supports our ambition for students to become their best selves and create bold futures.

From Year 7 to Year 11, students follow a progressive careers programme that helps them:

  • understand their own strengths, interests and aspirations

  • explore a wide range of careers and progression pathways

  • understand local, regional and national labour market opportunities

  • challenge stereotypes and broaden their horizons

  • develop employability and career-management skills

  • experience meaningful encounters with employers and workplaces

  • understand further education, higher education, apprenticeships and training routes

  • access impartial and personalised careers guidance and

  • make confident and informed decisions at key transition points.

We are committed to ensuring that background does not determine destination. Students who may face additional barriers, including those who are disadvantaged or have SEND, receive appropriate support to help them access opportunities and achieve positive, sustained destinations.

Ultimately, we want every student to leave Ferryhill School with the confidence, aspiration and knowledge to take their next step successfully and to continue making informed career decisions throughout their lives.
