Outdoor Adventures
48 Ferryhill School students travelled to the Lake District to spend the week taking part in a range of outdoor adventurous activities in and around the beautiful
setting of Ullswater lake.
As soon as we arrived, students took part in the ‘jog and dip’ activity - running a short distance then jumping off the jetty into the lake. This was just the beginning of the students pushing themselves out of their comfort zones.
All activities throughout the week have tested and challenged the students in different ways, such as facing fears of heights and small spaces. Students have taken part in climbing and abseiling down rock faces, Ghyll scrambling through the streams of Ullswater, mountain walking to the summit of Place Fell, descending and canoeing back across the lake, orienteering, tunnelling,
and cliff jumping into the lake.
Students have demonstrated our core values throughout the trip. Integrity has been shown by students supporting one another physically up the gorges and mentally during times of fear. Integrity has also been shown by keeping their equipment and the centre tidy at
all times.
They have demonstrated creativity by identifying routes of varying difficulty to ascend and descend mountains.
Excellence has been demonstrated by the students facing their fears and completing the hardest of challenges that they never thought they would.
We have all had a fantastic week and have all created memories that will last a lifetime. We would like to thank the students for their exceptional behaviour throughout the trip.
